The works displayed explore the intersection of art and science to represent dynamic movement in physical form.
In contrast to most paintings and photographs, which relay a captured moment, my work is a more complex expression of movement in space and time. While each piece is in fact stationary, its physical gesture has a distinct visual velocity associated with it. Altering the physical form from an expanding to a contracting state, or vice versa provides further opportunities to radically change the perception of each form’s visual velocity.
While many of these constructs use gravity to their advantage, others owe their existence to their unique ability to resist the effects of our natural laws – a mechanical resistance. This mechanical resistance enables one to visualize the sequence of instances of positional flux only possible in low gravity or gravity defying situations (birds in flight, schools of fish in water, etc.).
These pieces are developed during an ongoing study exploring fluidity and dynamism in physical forms. Several hundred studies have been produced during this process to identify the final pieces presented. Each piece is a mixed media assembly with main elements laser-cut from sheets of metalized acrylic.
Additional pieces from this series can be seen on Instagram and Facebook.
