Underwater Illumination Simulation

The goal of this project was to simulate the experience of being underwater.

The installation was accomplished using a projector, mirror, tub of water and canopy of white foam core panel.

Underneath visitors were invited to lie down on a 3/4 inflated air mattress and view the projected images.

Rhino Grasshopper Investigations

this definition :

1) controls
a) a rectangle’s length / width/ fillet &
b) the radius and z-height of a circle curve
c) lofts the two curves to form geometry

a) user controls the number of UV sub-divisions the geometry gets applied to the surface

* one thing to be made aware of is the bounding box deff is driven by the components outer most curve, which can be from the inner or outer creating curve. compare the 1st structure to the 3rd to see what i mean.

Solar Powered Sanctuary

A proposal for the beaches of San Pedro, California.

Cell Forms

A series of  investigations based on cell structures.  Designed in Rhino and 3D printed at different scales.

The resulting forms where arranged in a variety of configurations to explore ideas of enclosure,  light and shadow, and partition.

Transforming Light Studio – Serious Play 2008

I co-taught the Transforming Light Studio at Serious Play 2008, hosted by Art Center instructors Dan Gottlieb and  Penny Herscovitch.

I shared my knowledge of non-linear folding techniques with the students whom collectively created dynamic forms and reinterpreted lighting fixtures.

About the studio:
Open your eyes to the power and poetics of light. Using paper, tyvek and other simple supplies, participants will invent a range of lighting solutions. Some elements will be inspired by the work of Conference speaker Robert Lang.

Skyline Mirror

A wall mounted shelving unit with mirror featuring the Philadelphia skyline.

Keys hang off the buildings, shelves hold mail/netflix/etc.

The unit was fabricated from water-jet cut aluminum and painted with a white matte finish.

Nesting Necklace

A one-off jewelry piece created from three types of hand sculpted hardwoods which nest together when worn.

Birds Nest

A sculptural metaphor of a birds next.

Cast ceramic forms inhabit the nest which was created from weaving of off-cut wooden dowels.
