Kinema pendant luminaire

Kinema is a pendant luminaire designed to allow a user to control the intensity of light based on their mood or the environment.

Each of Kinema’s rings can be individually “flipped” creating dramatic light and shadow effects.

Kinema is available in satin-finished aluminum, brushed gold and black, brushed aluminum and black, or painted finish to perfectly suit the environment’s mood.

Kinema can be purchased from Ponoko or Etsy .

The 18th Annual AIA LAIAC Design+Build Competition

The team of Stuart Fingerhut and Olivia Paden represented Art Center at the 18th AIA Los Angeles Interior Architecture Committee 1:2 Student Competition.

It was an intense one day charette sponsored by the AIA LAIAC for an actual existing non-profit client, Club 21 based in Pasadena, CA.  Twelve schools from around Southern California were given an invitation to participate.

Round one of the competition was a crit by the judges of all projects, then six finalist teams were picked to verbally present their projects.

Our team took third place with a $4000.00 award.

Underwater Illumination Simulation

The goal of this project was to simulate the experience of being underwater.

The installation was accomplished using a projector, mirror, tub of water and canopy of white foam core panel.

Underneath visitors were invited to lie down on a 3/4 inflated air mattress and view the projected images.

SHU Living – Yokohama, Japan

Back from four months living in Japan. The main research+design project was SHU Living which focused on designing sustainable living solutions for the Japanese market. This project was exhibited at the Sprial Gallery in central Tokyo.

SAN PEDRO Science Center – San Pedro, CA

The SAN PEDRO Science Center provides an active learning environment to educate children and adults on the area’s diverse marine biology. With a range of exhibits and seminars open to the public, the Science Center’s goal is to make learning a memorable experience.

One highlight to the Science Center is the neighboring lifeguard station. Featuring the latest in thermal imaging and communications technology, visitors are kept safe while exploring the San Pedro coastline.

Sushi on Sunset Restaurant – Hollywood, CA

I was brought on to this commercial project to fabricate exterior lighting fixture for a new restaurant, Sushi on Sunset, which opened in August 2008.

Sushi on Sunset opened in August 2008 on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

In collaboration with Studio Meraz, Los Angeles.

Submission for the 2008 International Takifuji Art Award.

Skyline Mirror

A wall mounted shelving unit with mirror featuring the Philadelphia skyline.

Keys hang off the buildings, shelves hold mail/netflix/etc.

The unit was fabricated from water-jet cut aluminum and painted with a white matte finish.

Los Angeles Lofts – Los Angeles, CA

Taking inspiration from work showcased at the Skin and Bones exhibit at Los Angeles MOCA, this project explored the application of textile and construction techniques to architecture.

Armani Exchange Boutique – Pasadena, CA

Concept design for a new Armani Exchange boutique in Old Town Pasadena.

The facade features a dynamic, woven metal design which hovers above the store’s entrance.

The facade captures the attention of both pedestrian and driver’s attention.



Viceroy Hotel – Santa Monica, CA

A redesign of the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica.

The concept follows the story of an asteroid crash landing into the existing hotel and then infecting and transforming the structure.
