Los Angeles International Airport Redevelopment

Part of an internal Westfield team that responded to a Request for Proposals from LAX to design and develop food-and-beverage, retail, specialty retail and other passenger services at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Westfield’s submission won the competition and has been awarded a 17 year concession contract expected to generate a total of $331.1 million in revenue for Los Angeles World Airports.

Below is an example of the experiential storytelling visuals and post-production work completed for the competition submission.

Cell Dishes II

An update to the original Cell dish design which I submitted to Shapeways’ 2011 ICFF competition.

Cell dishes were guided by investigations in the digital craft movement – how new digital production methods can profoundly change traditional craft design – in this case ceramics.  Through these investigation I examined the dialog between CAD space and the production space of the manufacturer and how to leverage each to their maximum potential.

While digital fabrication allows for higher degrees of design complexity leading, one must keep in mind the specific material being used for the final product and its behaviour, to fully exploit this new material practice. With these constraints in place, material thinking then shifts to a sequence of design thinking.

The 18th Annual AIA LAIAC Design+Build Competition

The team of Stuart Fingerhut and Olivia Paden represented Art Center at the 18th AIA Los Angeles Interior Architecture Committee 1:2 Student Competition.

It was an intense one day charette sponsored by the AIA LAIAC for an actual existing non-profit client, Club 21 based in Pasadena, CA.  Twelve schools from around Southern California were given an invitation to participate.

Round one of the competition was a crit by the judges of all projects, then six finalist teams were picked to verbally present their projects.

Our team took third place with a $4000.00 award.
